Welcome to the course!

Introduction to Film Studies is a complementary course, offered by the Champlain College Media department, for anyone who likes movies – and wants to know more about them.

The course aims to equip you, as an enthusiastic film viewer, to be able to see more and appreciate more.  You will learn to recognize the basic elements of film – shot types, lighting, editing, sound, narrative structure, and more.

This will be a first step toward establishing your own articulated critical stance, and transforming from a passive viewer to a sharp-eyed, active one, who not only enjoys films more than before, but who can understand that enjoyment and put it into words!
